Banana leaves are no strangers in the life of the
Vietnamese people, banana leaves used to pack the aromatic rice cake; rice
cake, teddybread, sticky rice, good luck. Not only in the world, in some South
Indian states, they have traditionally used banana leaves to serve food: Rice,
meat, vegetables, lentils, curry and pickles are all served on the same leaves.
And in fact, banana leaves bring more benefits than
we think.
1.
Healthy
According to Indiatimes, banana leaves contain a
plant-derived compound called polyphenols such as epigallocatechin (EGCG), also
found in green tea. Polyphenols are natural antioxidants that fight free
radicals and prevent disease.
Although banana leaves are not easy to digest if
eaten directly, the food placed on it will absorb polyphenols from the leaves,
so you will receive healthy nutrients from there.
In addition, it is believed that banana leaves have
anti-bacterial properties that can kill pathogens in food, reducing the risk of
illness or illness for you.
2.
Tastes better
Banana leaves have a wax coating that is fragrant
and delicate but distinct. When hot food is placed on the leaves, the wax melts
and blends into the food that makes them taste better.
3.
Environmentally friendly
Most people use plastic disks or disposable foams to
store food when they need it, but banana leaves are an environmentally friendly
option. Because they decay in a very short time, unlike plastics, it takes
hundreds of years to decompose.
4.
Clean up
Banana leaves do not need to be cleaned much, just
rinse with clean water that we can use. If you are eating where sanitation
standards are problematic, it is best to keep food in banana leaves instead of
a properly cleaned dish or plastic sheet.
5.
No chemicals
Metal or plastic discs, when washed with soap and
water, can still leave traces of chemicals in the soap on the dish,
contaminating your food. But with banana leaves only need to be washed with
clean water thoroughly and do not need to wash with soap, so your food will be
immune to chemicals.
6.
Handy
In fact, a banana boat is quite large, it can
contain a meal consisting of many different ingredients. The leaves are largely
waterproof, thanks to their waxy coatings, so they can keep the sauces
tasteless and stick too much sauce in the food container.
